Bank History

History

In 1935 Virginia Industrial Loan Corporation was organized. It was located at 322 Main Street in Danville , VA. In 1945 the State Corporation Commission granted Virginia Industrial Loan Corporation permission to become a bank. At this time the name was changed to Virginia Bank & Trust.

The first drive-up window combined with the only “Motor Bank” in Danville made this hometown bank ahead of others in the area in 1963. Ten years later in 1973, Virginia Bank & Trust opened their first branch office on the corner of Riverside Drive and Piney Forest Road . The customer was always the first priority. This gave the bank the opportunity to provide convenience and quality customer service.

Having outgrown their original location, Virginia Bank & Trust moved to their current location at 336 Main Street in 1975. A second branch office was opened in 1983 on the corner of North Main Street and Seminole Drive . Extended hours were established for the drive-up window from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

A third branch was opened in 1989 on the corner of 58 East and Airport Drive and two years later a branch was opened in Chatham at 55 North Main Street.

Virginia Bank Bankshares Inc., a bank holding company, was formed in January 1998 for Virginia Bank & Trust.

Our fifth branch, Mt. Hermon, was opened in 1999 and is located at the corner of Franklin Turnpike and Mt. Hermon Circle.

Our sixth branch, Brosville Station, located at 10370 Martinsville Highway, was opened in July 2006 in Brosville, Virginia.

It has always been the goal of Virginia Bank & Trust to be “Your Hometown Bank”. We continue to profitably deliver quality customer services that meet the financial needs of our community, its businesses, and its citizens.
